Program Overview:The BeFit program at Massachusetts General Hospital is an employee wellness initiative that has been engaging employees to get active and healthy for over 2 years. The BeFit Forever pilot program takes the original premise of the 12-week long BeFit program – and establishes new features that include activity monitoring and online resources – to allow participants to stay connected to their BeFit team and instructors, and maintain their healthier lifestyles.
BeFit Forever combines the use of activity monitoring ‘wearables’ and Internet-based resources, such as reporting of weekly exercise and food logs, activity charts, incentives, and educational content and resources. Twenty employees of MGH are currently enrolled in the pilot.
This program was developed jointly by Massachusetts General Hospital, the Center for Connected Health, MGH Nutrition and Food Services, and the Clubs at Charles River Park.
Making tracking simple and convenient overcomes a significant hurdle on the path towards success. Adding the support network seems to be a formula for success based on the consumer research we have done to date. The link to ultimate success seems to be determining individual motivational factors for initiating healthy behaviors and ultimately making them part of a lifestyle.
